Santa Catalina Island. An American Aviation Academy hour-builder takes a short one hour flight to Catalina Island, located off the coast of Los Angeles. Note the runway which was created by blowing up the top of two adjacent mountains and the valley in between being filled in with the rubble.

Crater Lake, Oregon. Full Professional students have the opportunity of exploring some of America's natural wonders further afield. Here a commercial student takes a solo flight from San Diego to the Canadian border overflying Crater Lake national park prior to a fuel stop in Portland.

Grand Canyon, Arizona. A short flight east of Las Vegas lies Grand Canyon West airport, an unattended up-sloping paved strip. A fun destination for customers as it is a short hop from Las Vegas and is adjacent to the canyon. We recommend parking up here as you can walk up to the edge--and watching the helicopters drop down into the Canyon is always fun.
Gillespie Field, San Diego. Take off and landing at Gillespie Field.
Flight over El Capitan. First solo.
