About the School

American Aviation Academy was incorporated in 1994 with the intention of offering intense courses of training exclusively for international students.

The owner of the company has experienced a wide range of US and UK flight schools and structured the philosophy of American Aviation Academy with consideration of both the good and bad experiences elsewhere.

Some of the key issues are listed below:

1. People do not appreciate travelling 7000 miles to enroll in an all inclusive course and on arrival they hear one or more of the following:

"There are no aircraft available because we are busy with local business"
     "We were not expecting you"
"Sorry we do not pick you up from the airport"
"You will have to share a room"
"We will fit you in but do not expect the same instructor every day"

2. The weather is flyable very nearly every day. The area is dominated by a huge Pacific High Pressure and we do not suffer Tornadoes, Thunderstorms or one inch hailstones!

3. People do not want to fly dirty, poorly maintained aircraft.

4. The flight school environment should be relaxed and friendly and at the same time keep the flight training standards high.

5. If customers are treated well and given what is promised they will return time and time again.

Airport and Facilities

Gillespie Field, San Diego has three hard surfaced runways, two parallel and one crosswind. Importantly, there is a control tower on the airfield which increases the safety and allows new pilots to gain valuable radio telephony experience. This is the best possible learning environment available anywhere in the world.

For more advanced students, several different instrument approaches are available within a twenty mile radius; during the later stages of advanced training, the busy Los Angeles airspace can also be utilised.

All our pilot training facilities have been combined within our corporate headquarters. They include modern well-equipped study and briefing areas, office space, the flight planning area and a lounge. The pilot supply shop, FAA Control Tower (visitors always welcome) and Skyview Cafe are all close by.

Accommodation

The charges for most of our courses include fully-furnished, air-conditioned, two bedroom apartments, with swimmng pool and laundry facilities. Each student occupies a private bedroom and is provided with bed linen. The apartments are located within a ten minute bicycle ride of Gillespie Field. We even let you choose from our squadron of loan bicycles - free!

In the evening, you can relax by the pool with other students, try night flying, or perhaps enjoy a trip to the beaches for something more lively.

The choice is yours.
